Comcast unveiled a new, 150,000 square-foot, Class A facility in New Castle County, Del., on September 5th. The new customer support center, located within the Christiana Corporate Center at 400 Commerce Drive in Newark, is now home to more than 700 Comcast employees who support residential customers from across Comcast’s Northeast Division, as well as more than 100 employees who help monitor and manage the network for business and residential customers.
Part of Comcast’s ongoing commitment to improve the customer experience, the new center brings together employees previously working out of two separate Delaware facilities, in New Castle and Newark, under one roof. By bringing the two teams together, the new facility fosters teamwork and encourages a more collaborative, cross-functional environment that will ultimately enhance the employee and customer experience.
“We’re glad Comcast is making this long-term commitment to Delaware with the opening of this new, state-of-the-art facility,” said Delaware Governor John Carney. “Businesses looking to grow and thrive choose Delaware because we have a lot to offer – from a strong and talented workforce, to a central location and excellent quality of life. This investment in a high-tech and eco-friendly workplace is a great example of what’s possible here in Delaware.”
Since signing a 10-year lease in July 2018, Comcast invested in extensive renovations of the previously vacant building where millions of calls are expected to be handled annually. The new center boasts amenities that create a productive and enjoyable work environment including ergonomic, height-adjustable workstations; numerous, multi-function collaboration and meeting spaces; a state-of-the-art workout facility; full cafeteria; coffee bar; a game room including a golf simulator; a 45-seat theater for product demonstrations; a 200-person meeting space; and green spaces including an outdoor patio and pond with walking path.
Designed with sustainability in mind, the new facility uses environmentally sustainable materials throughout, along with high efficiency systems to save energy, including LED lighting equipped with daylight harvesting technology and additional lighting control; new, ultra-efficient gas boilers and heat pump units; and a white, thermoplastic roof. Several hydroponic “living green wall” installations and other biophilic design elements dampen noise and filter the air, while helping to reduce stress and keep employees connected to the natural environment.
“Bringing our workforce together in an environment designed to help our employees feel their best and do their best work, will benefit them and the thousands of customers they support every day,” said Jim Samaha, senior vice president of Comcast’s Freedom Region. “This facility is an investment in the tools, technology and people who help us deliver a truly outstanding customer experience.”
“We win the future when employers like Comcast commit to our local workforce by investing in new facilities right here in New Castle County,” said New Castle County Executive Director Matt Meyer.
This latest commitment reinforces Comcast’s continued investment in Delaware where Comcast employs more than 1,100 employees in 22 facilities. In 2018, Comcast invested more than $261 million in direct and indirect investments in Delaware and contributed more than $13 million to the state economy in direct taxes, fees and permits. In addition, the company invested more than $13 million in cash and in-kind contributions in Delaware communities.
