Here at Comcast, sustainability is a daily focus, and we are committed to making a positive impact with environmentally friendly practices and programs including clean energy production to reduce our reliance on the electrical grid. We are excited to announce the completion of a 90-panel, ground-mount solar installation at our multi-purpose facility in Turnersville, NJ, supporting services for our customers throughout Southern New Jersey. The system, our first solar-powered broadband facility in New Jersey for Comcast, will reduce approximately 31 metric tons of CO2 in emissions through the regional electricity grid — as much as 44 megawatt-hours of energy annually, or the equivalent of more than four homes’ worth of electricity.
We worked with multi-state solar integrator, Maicom, LLC, to install the 30kw system, which will supplement other energy-efficient enhancements on site including the replacement of HVAC units and older network equipment. This holistic approach to energy management is expected to eliminate an additional 12,000 kilowatt-hours of energy usage annually – or about one home’s energy use for a year. Additionally, the ground area at the site was cleared and remediated with a stone base to limit the need for future vegetation control, further reducing our environmental impact.
“Our commitment to innovation stems further than our products and services and into our commitment to implement sustainable resources for our employees and our communities,” said Jim Samaha, Senior Vice President of Comcast’s Freedom Region. “We are proud to be part of the sustainable initiatives happening in New Jersey and beyond and will continue to find new ways to go green.”
“New Jersey is a national leader in installed solar capacity for both residential and commercial citizens, and I commend Comcast for choosing Washington Township for their latest sustainable technology investment,” said Washington Township Mayor Joann Gattinelli. “I expect their commitment to clean energy will inspire more businesses to be part of our community’s innovative, greener future.”
This solar project is just the latest in an ongoing series of sustainability efforts implemented across the Greater Philadelphia Region – and our national footprint.
