X1 and Common Sense Media Get Families Ready for Back-to-School

3 years ago

As kids head back to school, parents everywhere are especially concerned about their kid’s digital lives and are hungry for guidance on a variety of topics from cyberbullying, trending social media apps, screen time management to finding great media the whole family can enjoy. That’s why Comcast and Common Sense Media have teamed up to make this transition smoother with a dedicated destination on X1 to help navigate the variety of programming and experiences accessible on TV and across devices.

Parents can now go to the kids section of X1 to access:

  • a curated selection of Common Sense Media videos, reviews and programming suggestions on a variety of topics such as online safety, cyberbullying and social media;
  • videos that offer basic overviews and safety tips for popular social media platforms including Snapchat, Instagram, Musical.ly and Kik;
  • educational videos and content applicable to children of all ages, such as “8 Rules for Safe Smartphone Use,” “6 Ways to Help Your Kids Stop Multitasking During Homework,” “5 Ways to Spot Fake News” and more, with several titles available in Spanish;
  • reviews of new and returning TV shows such as Stranger Things just in time for the start of Fall TV.

Common Sense Media is also offering new curated lists to help families more easily browse and discover great programming based on what’s important to them. Categories include “Back-to-School Movies,” “Family Movie Night,” “High School Movies for Teens,” and “Smart Movies Girls,” among others.

“The rapid transformation of traditional and digital media continually presents new issues for parents to understand and address in order to provide safe entertainment experiences for their children,” said Todd Gold, Senior Director, Programming, Entertainment at Comcast. “For more than a decade, we’ve partnered with Common Sense Media to arm parents with the tools and information they need to stay informed, make educated decisions and provide age-appropriate experiences for the whole family on the TV and across devices. This destination is a great tool for parents and another example of X1’s ability to contextually integrate new information and resources beyond entertainment in order to keep improving the viewing experience.”

“Common Sense is dedicated to helping families make smart media choices with our independent reviews, ratings and advice developed by our in-house team of experts,” said Jill Murphy, Vice President, Editor in Chief at Common Sense Media. “After 10 years of partnership, Comcast continues to find unique ways to ensure their customers have access to the very latest tips and advice on our ever-changing media and technology landscape, and we are excited about this new resource for families.”
