The shift to all things virtual has made a reliable network that much more critical. At Comcast, we have built our network and a team of dedicated technicians to provide flexibility and reliability so we can quickly respond to spikes or shifts in usage – keeping customers connected regardless of what’s happening around them. We also built this fiber network to be redundant, meaning if a primary fiber route is damaged, the system smartly and automatically switches over to a parallel route, avoiding interruptions.
However, we know that outages due to destruction caused by severe weather will happen from time to time. As customers ourselves, we know how frustrating that can be. That’s why we work so hard to prepare for severe weather events.
Hear from some of our local network technicians about their storm preparations:
It all starts with monitoring the weather and preparing our systems and teams ahead of time so we can respond quickly to any impact to our service. From increasing staffing and positioning generators to ensuring our service vehicles are prepared for challenging conditions, you can rest assured that our teams are ready to respond wherever they are needed – as areas become safe and accessible for work.
Following a storm, we coordinate closely with power companies and local and state emergency workers to identify impacted areas. If commercial power is down, your local utility provider must restore services first. Then, our teams work around the clock until services are fully restored for all our customers.
