Every year, tens of thousands of people around the world volunteer in their communities on Comcast Cares Day, our annual celebration of our year-round commitment to service. Comcast NBCUniversal employees and their families and friends, work alongside community partners and public officials to Make Change Happen in our local communities. Our 16th annual Comcast Cares Day was held on Saturday, April 22nd. Here’s a look at how volunteers helped transform communities in New Jersey and Philadelphia.
In New Jersey, 3,000 volunteers worked at more than 40 Comcast Cares Day project locations including schools, parks and community organizations. New Jersey projects included participation in Clean Ocean Action’s Beach Sweeps in Brick, Cape May, Long Branch, Ocean City and Wildwood; restoration work at the Battleship New Jersey Museum and Memorial in Camden; and landscaping and more at the Alice Paul Institute in Mount Laurel.
Approximately 80 volunteers helped the Arc of Warren County revitalize three of their group homes in Asbury, Hackettstown and Washington, NJ.
Comcast Technician Ed Amaya, along with more than 130 volunteers including dozens of Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts from the area, cleaned up the 9th Street Park in Carlstadt for the whole neighborhood to enjoy.
Comcast employees who work on Comcast Cares Day have the option to volunteer their time by donating blood or participating in other projects within Comcast offices. Employees from the CommOps team in Voorhees, NJ, created 2,700 paracord bracelets that were donated to Operation Gratitude, for distribution to military personnel.
At the USS Battleship New Jersey Museum in Camden, more than 300 Comcast volunteers, including members of the company’s VetNet Employee Resource Group, were happy to lend a hand to keep the museum looking good for visitors.
Dozens of volunteers turned out to spruce up the Boys & Girls Clubs of Gloucester County’s Paulsboro Clubhouse. Comcast volunteers planted, painted, raked and helped with general clean-up to keep the club looking good for local kids.
In Greater Philadelphia, more than 5,500 volunteers convened at 50 schools, parks and community organizations on Comcast Cares Day. Projects included revitalizing the Shane Victorino Nicetown Boys & Girls Club and the Farm at Bartram’s Garden in Philadelphia; the Bensalem Community Garden; the Pottstown YMCA; and William Hicks Anderson Community Center in Wilmington, DE.
Alexander Adaire Elementary School was one of ten schools in Philadelphia where Comcast volunteers revitalized planting beds, bulletin boards, playgrounds and classrooms. Comcast employees have supported Adaire Elementary on three consecutive Comcast Cares Days.
Members of Comcast’s Unidos@Comcast Employee Resource Group took the lead volunteering at Philadelphia’s Lutheran Settlement House, a great community partner, by building and installing book shelves, preparing raised planting beds and adding some fresh paint.
This old piano was no match for our hearty Comcast Cares Day volunteers at Laura Wheeler Waring Elementary School in Philadelphia where a big cleanup was underway. The project that extended through the schools surrounding community was led by dedicated employees who volunteer and support the school year-round.
Comcast employees spread mulch in planting beds at schools, parks and community centers throughout the Greater Philadelphia Region, including here at Horatio B. Hackett Elementary School in Philadelphia.
Dozens of Comcast employees, family members and friends joined with Mural Arts Philadelphia at Roxborough High School to spruce up the landscaping outside of the school and clean and paint inside.
