Once again, Comcast is proud to be named as an honoree of The Civic 50 Greater Philadelphia. This regional initiative, led by the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia in partnership with globally recognized nonprofit Points of Light, is designed to recognize and celebrate the 50 most community-minded companies in the Greater Philadelphia region.

“We are committed to supporting our local communities to help create a world of unlimited possibilities — and that starts in Philadelphia, the place we’ve called home for 60 years,” said Dan Bonelli, Senior Vice President of Comcast’s Freedom Region, which serves Southeastern Pennsylvania. “Last year, we continued our support for community nonprofits that provide training and career development for learners at all levels to help our neighbors shape an extraordinary future.”

Modeled after the Points of Light’s national Civic 50 program, which named Comcast NBCUniversal to their annual Civic 50 list for the 11th year, the Civic 50 Greater Philadelphia honors employers across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware based on four facets of their community engagement programs:

  • Investment of resources
  • Integration across business functions
  • Institutionalization through policies and system
  • Impact measurement

Comcast’s core values of integrity and respect have driven our community engagement across our business. Locally and nationally, our initiatives include:

  • Project UP – our $1 billion digital equity and economic mobility initiative – awarding grants to organizations that support digital adoption and skills training, including Coded By Kids, Heights Philadelphia, and Per Scholas.
  • Promoting volunteerism through Team UP, our employee volunteer program, with more than 2,900 Greater Philadelphia teammates participating in over 18,000 hours of hands-on, skills-based, and pro-bono volunteering in 2023.
  • Comcast RISE, which launched in 2020, has supported the growth of 13,500 small businesses in 1,321 cities, including Philadelphia, through comprehensive grant packages that include business consultation services, educational resources, a $5,000 monetary grant, creative production, media schedule, and a technology makeover.
  • Helping thousands of young people gain essential skills in media literacy and storytelling through Sky Up Academy and NBCU Academy
  • Expanding our network of Digital Navigators, trusted community members who help people gain digital skills, with $13.6 million in grants for connectivity and adoption for 250+ organizations.
  • Launching our GreenerLight Program, which incorporates sustainability throughout the filmmaking process, from script to screen.

The Civic 50 Greater Philadelphia honorees were officially recognized on Thursday, June 27, at a celebratory event hosted by Brandywine Realty Trust at the Cira Centre.

The Civic 50 survey is administered by True Impact, and the results are analyzed by VeraWorks. The survey instrument consists of quantitative and multiple-choice questions that inform the scoring process. The Civic 50 is the only survey and ranking system that exclusively measures corporate community engagement.
