Honoring Veterans, Strengthening Communities on Flag Day and Beyond

Comcast Freedom Region Flag Day

This year, Comcast’s Freedom Region proudly celebrates the seventh anniversary of Operation Old Glory, a unique initiative started by our employees that is dedicated to replacing worn or damaged flags in our communities, free of charge. Since its launch in 2017 by local members of Comcast’s Veteran’s Network Employee Resource Group (VetNet), the year-round program has since expanded across the entire company.

Flag Day has become a poignant reminder of Operation Old Glory’s impact. This year, we partnered once again with the Delaware County Veterans Memorial Association (DCVM) and their special Flag Day ceremony, which recognizes their Freedom Medal Honorees. At the event, more than 250 American flags collected by our teammates from local residents, nonprofits, and businesses were ceremoniously retired by members of VetNet, Comcast leadership, DCVM representatives, and residents.

“The American flag has many meanings,” said Sean Casey, Senior Director of Military Affairs at Comcast, a combat Veteran and Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Reserve, during his remarks at the event. “It’s a reminder of a loved one who served. For others, it symbolizes the incredible journey of immigrants pursuing their dreams in a new land. At Comcast NBCUniversal, our Operation Old Glory program helps ensure these deep connections to our nation’s symbol and the ideals it represents never fade.”

Thanks to over 50 dedicated VetNet volunteer Flag Ambassadors, Operation Old Glory has replaced over 1,300 flags (and counting) across northern Delaware, Greater Philadelphia, and New Jersey the past seven years.

Comcast is proud to continue expanding this program and growing our initiatives supporting the military community. To learn more, click here
